CLYLP Remembers former Capitol staffer Ellie Peck

August 13, 2013

The following is a statement from Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project (CLYLP) President Norma Dominguez, on the passing of longtime CLYLP Volunteer and Veteran Organizer, Ellie Peck:

All of us who are part of the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend and mentor, Ellie Peck. Many of us had just greeted and visited with Ellie at our 2013 Sacramento Leadership Conference Banquet on Friday, July 26th, so news of her loss comes as a sudden and great shock.

Countless CLYLP students have used the tools and skills provided and learned through Ellie's campaign development workshop at our Sacramento Leadership Conference, to run for student body elections at their high schools and for local elected offices, as well as to organize campaigns around issues they cared about.

Ellie was a key figure in California Lieutenant Governor Leo McCarthy's staff, worked on Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley's campaign for Governor, helped found Comision Femenil, and helped organize the California Senior Legislature, among other accomplishments.

On behalf of the CLYLP Board of Directors and the thousands of CLYLP student alumni who have learned and benefited over the years from her humor, advocacy and teaching, we extend our deepest sympathies to Ellie's family and friends.  Ellie's flame will always burn bright within her CLYLP family and we will continue her work with future generations of students in her loving memory.

Kind regards,
